Shivaji Maharaj gained control of Sinhagad 1647. It then stayed under the Maratha rule till 1689. The fort is well known for the legendry climb by Tanaji which helped the Marartha to conquer the Fort.

History

  

Its original name was "Murumdev". It attracted Shivaji Maharaj attention during the capture of Torna fort. He used the treasure obtained at Torna to fortify the adjoining Murumdev making it an impregnable stronghold and named it "Rajgad".

History    

Raigad was the formidable capital of Swaraj.The original construction of this fort was done somewhere in the Satvahan era. It was mostly used as a military base. Shivaji Maharaj coronation took place on 6th June 1674 on Raigad. After Shivaji, his son Sambhaji managed the Kingdom from Raigad till his assassination in 1689 after which it fell into the hands of Mughals.
